Currency, time zone and property type

The three choices that shape everything: why the currency is permanent, what the time zone decides, and how the property type changes labels and reporting.

Three of the answers you give when creating a property do far more work than the rest. This is what each one drives, and which of them you can change later.

Currency: permanent, on purpose

Every price, booking, payment and invoice your property ever produces is written in its currency. It cannot be changed after the property is created — and that's protection, not a limitation. If the currency changed after records existed, everything already written would keep the currency it was made in: your history would say one thing, your settings another, and no report could add the two honestly. Rather than let that corruption happen quietly, Accommador locks the currency at creation and shows it in the property editor as a locked badge. Take the extra minute at setup; if a property was genuinely created with the wrong currency, contact support.

Time zone: when “today” begins

The time zone decides when “today” starts for arrivals, departures and the messages that go to guests. Set it to where the property physically is — not where you happen to be — and the day's arrivals list, departure list and scheduled guest messages all roll over at your property's midnight. You can adjust it later on the Property Details tab.

Property type: the app in your language

Hotel, motel, houseboat, holiday rental and more — the property type tells Accommador what kind of place it's running, and the app adapts:

  • What things are called. Your inventory is labelled rooms, units or beds to match — a motel manages rooms, a houseboat fleet manages units.
  • Which reporting figures you see. A whole-unit property (a holiday house, a houseboat) is measured in revenue per unit; a room-based property is measured per room. The comparisons you see are the ones that make sense for your kind of place.
  • How guests arrive. The type sets sensible defaults for check-in — a front-desk style arrival for room-based properties, a whole-unit handover for houses and boats.

Unlike the currency, the type is yours to correct any time on the Property Details tab, and labels and reporting follow it.

Type is not structure

Separately from the type, setup asks how your business is structured: one property with many rooms sold under it, or individual rentals each with its own listing. The two are independent on purpose — a houseboat fleet run as one business picks houseboats as its type and the single-property structure. The type describes what you rent; the structure describes how you sell it, and it affects which booking sites your property can list on. The structure is fixed after creation.

Troubleshooting

My reports talk about rooms but I rent units

Check the property type on the Property Details tab — correcting it corrects the labels and the reporting figures with it.

Arrivals are appearing on the wrong day

That's almost always the time zone. If it's set to somewhere other than the property's location, “today” starts at the wrong moment — fix it on the Property Details tab.
